Smidgen · Last updated: 20 October 2026
Smidgen is a kitchen measurement converter for iPhone. The short version: the developer collects no data about you. Your conversions, favourites, and recipes stay on your iPhone. The free version shows ads from Google AdMob in the ingredient list, and Google receives some device data to show them. Smidgen Pro removes the ads.
Who is responsible
Smidgen is made by Filipe Santos, an independent developer in Portugal. Contact: sledpace@gmail.com.
Data the app stores on your iPhone
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Your cup, weight, volume, and temperature settings | So conversions use your units |
| Your favourite and recent ingredients, your own ingredients, and your recipe | So the app opens where you left it |
| Whether you have Smidgen Pro | So the app knows to hide the ads and unlock every ingredient |
This data never leaves your iPhone. The developer has no server and cannot see it.
Ads in the free version
The free version shows ads in the ingredient list: one near the top, then one every 20 ingredients. The ads come from Google AdMob, a service of Google Ireland Limited. To choose, show, and measure the ads, Google’s software in the app sends Google:
- your IP address, from which Google can work out your approximate location (country or city);
- information about your device, such as the model, the system version, and the language;
- how you interact with an ad, for example if you see it or tap it;
- diagnostic data, for example if the ad software crashes.
Your consent. In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland, the app shows Google’s consent form. If you do not consent, or until you answer, Google shows only ads that are not personalised (non-personalised or limited ads). You can change your choice at any time in Smidgen’s settings, under Ad privacy choices, or by deleting and reinstalling the app.
No tracking. Smidgen does not ask for permission to track you, so Google does not get your device’s advertising identifier (IDFA) from Smidgen.
How Google uses this data: How Google uses information from apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
If you have Smidgen Pro, the app loads no ads.
Smidgen Pro
Smidgen Pro is a one-time in-app purchase. Apple handles the payment. The developer never sees your name, email address, or payment details.
Feedback by email
If you tap Send feedback, your own mail app opens a message to sledpace@gmail.com. Nothing is sent unless you send it. If you send it, the developer uses your email address and message only to answer you and to improve the app, and deletes them when you ask.
What the app does not do
- No account and no sign-in.
- No analytics and no crash reporting by the developer.
- No tracking across apps or websites, and no request for your advertising identifier.
- Except for Google AdMob in the free version, no third-party SDKs.
Deleting your data
Delete the app. That removes everything it stored on your iPhone. For data that Google holds, see the Google Privacy Policy.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, to withdraw your consent, and to complain to a data protection authority. In Portugal, that is the CNPD. For anything else, write to sledpace@gmail.com.
Children
Smidgen is suitable for all ages, but it is not made for children. The app asks Google for ads that are suitable for a general audience.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be on this page with a new date.
